TaproGuide is a trip planner. We collect the smallest amount of information needed to build and sync your trips, and we do not sell it or use it to target advertising.

1. Who we are

TaproGuide ("we", "us") is the data controller for the information described here. We operate from Canada and the app is available internationally. Contact: [email protected].

2. What we collect

  • Account data — your email address, a display name and an avatar colour. You can sign in with Apple, with Google, or with an email link. If you use Sign in with Apple's private relay, the relay address is the only one we ever see.
  • Trip content — destinations, dates, stops, stays, notes, checklists, journeys between places, costs, and the names of the people you are travelling with. This is the content you create.
  • Place searches — when you search for a place, the text you type and the approximate location of your trip are sent to Google Places to return suggestions. This goes through our server, so your device never contacts Google directly.
  • Location — only while the app is open, only if you allow it, and only to centre the map on where you are. We do not store your location, and we never collect it in the background.

The names of your travelling companions are labels you type, not accounts. Adding someone does not notify them, create an account for them, or give them access to anything.

3. What we do not do

We do not sell personal data. We do not share it with advertising networks or data brokers, we do not build advertising profiles, and we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.

There is also no analytics and no crash reporting in the app. We do not measure which screens you open or which features you use, and no third-party analytics SDK is bundled. There are no adverts and nothing to buy, so we hold no payment information of any kind.

4. How we use it

To create, store and sync your trips so they are there when you sign in again; to search for and show places you add; to work out what a trip costs and split it between the people on it; to answer support requests; and to keep the service secure.

Sharing a trip opens Google Maps with its route. Nothing about your trip is published on the web, and there is no public link to it.

5. Your consent, and legal bases

We are based in Canada, so Canadian federal privacy law (PIPEDA) applies to how we handle your information: we collect it with your knowledge and consent, use it only for the purposes described here, and you can withdraw consent by deleting your account.

If you are in the EEA or UK, we additionally rely on these bases: performing our contract with you (providing the app and syncing your trips), your consent where you grant location access, and our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure.

6. Service providers

  • Supabase — hosts our database, files and sign-in. Your account and trips are stored there.
  • Google — Maps draws the map on your device; Places returns search results and is called by our server, not by your device.
  • Apple — handles Sign in with Apple, and distributes the app.
  • Wikimedia — photographs of well-known places come from Wikimedia Commons. Our server fetches and stores them, so Wikimedia sees our server rather than you.

7. Retention

Trip content is kept until you delete it or delete your account. Deleting your account removes your profile, your trips and everything in them from our live database immediately. Residual copies may persist in our host's encrypted backups for a short period before those backups age out.

8. Your rights

You can access, correct, export or delete your data, object to or restrict processing, and withdraw consent at any time. Use the You tab in the app to delete your account directly, or email [email protected]. We respond within 30 days. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

9. Children

TaproGuide is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 where local law requires). We do not knowingly collect their data; if we learn we have, we delete it.

10. Security and transfers

Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Because we operate from Canada and use international service providers, your information is processed outside your own country — including in Canada and the United States. Where that involves EEA or UK personal data we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses.

11. Changes

If we make material changes we will notify you in the app before they take effect and update the date at the top of this page.
